Kelly: Proud that Greenwich High School Ranked #2 Public High school in Connecticut

Submitted by Joe Kelly

I am proud to share some wonderful news for Greenwich. U.S. News & World Report’s newest rankings placed Greenwich High School as the #2 public high school in all of Connecticut, trailing only Connecticut IB Academy in East Hartford, a selective magnet school of roughly 200 students. GHS also earned a national ranking of #194 out of nearly 18,000 public high schools evaluated nationwide — a remarkable achievement for a comprehensive public high school serving thousands of students, not a small selective program.

This result is a testament to our entire community. It reflects years of sustained effort by the Greenwich Board of Education, our administrators, and above all our teachers, who show up for our students every single day. I had the privilege of serving on the Greenwich Board of Education, including a year as chairman, and one of our clear goals throughout that time was to make Greenwich High School the #1 high school in Connecticut and our district the #1 school district in the state. This ranking shows just how close we’ve come, and it belongs to everyone who contributed to it.

I want to extend my sincere congratulations to the Board of Education, our administrators, our teachers, and everyone across the district who helped make this possible. A special thank you to GHS Principal Ralph Mayo, whose steady leadership has been such an important part of this success.

Greenwich has always been a community that invests in its schools and holds itself to a high standard, and this ranking is proof that that investment pays off. I could not be prouder to call this town home, and prouder still of what our schools have accomplished together.

Congratulations, Greenwich. Let’s keep striving for #1.
