Greenwich to Kick Off 4th of July Semiquincentenniel Celebration with Flag Raising

America’s Semiquincentenniel will be celebrated with an American Flag Raising in theback of Greenwich Town Hall on the morning of Saturday July 4.

Festivities will kick off at 9:00am.

Everyone in Greenwich is invited to join in this celebration of our great nation. The event is once again being organized by the Independence Day Association of Greenwich.

Members of the Sound Beach Community Band will perform live music along with the Assembly trumpet call, followed by ceremonial rifle fire by the Greenwich Police Department Honor Guard, introduction of dignitaries and a message from the Town of Greenwich by First Selectman Fred Camillo.

Boy and Girl Scouts will present the thirteen Colonial flags, Boys & Girls Club Teens will recite Ragged Old Flag, followed by a flag raising by Veterans of American Legion Post 29.

Good citizenship awards will be presented to High School students selected by their various schools. Award recipients include Joell Molina of Greenwich High School; Mia Secko-Thompson of Greenwich Country Day; Meghan McMahon of Sacred Heart; Finn Sargent of Brunswick School and Mia Jones of Greenwich Academy.

Descendants of Greenwich Settlers will be recognized as will descendants of Revolutionary War Patriots and Fallen Patriots of Greenwich. The names of citizens of the Town of Greenwich who lost their lives during the Revolutionary War will be read, followed by a Moment of Silence, 21-Gun Salute and Echo Taps.

Following the ceremony everyone is invited for refreshments and America’s birthday cake in the Town Hall gazebo.
