Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating a motor vehicle vs. pedestrian collision resulting in serious injury.
The crash occurred in the area of 1201 Washington Blvd on Sunday November 23 around 2:39am.
Stamford Police said a 2021 Chevy Express van was being operated southbound on Washington Blvd in the area of 1201 Washington Blvd when the van struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross from the east to the west side of the street.
The van did not stop and fled the scene.
The pedestrian, a 73-year-old Stamford resident suffered very serious, possibly life-threatening injuries, and was transported to Stamford Hospital. The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.
The evading vehicle was found on traffic cameras shortly after the collision and a description was broadcast to all officers.
The van was located a short time after the collision in a parking lot not far from the scene. The owner of the van was identified as Stamford resident, Jean Vieux, 24, who admitted that he was driving the vehicle and struck something, but did not give any further details.
Mr. Vieux was subsequently arrested for Evading Responsibility and is currently being held on bond.
C.A.R.S. will continue to investigate and determine if there will be any further charges.
