Rota: Raabe is Rabid

Submitted by Adele Rota, Greenwich

Dear Editor,

There have been a recent series of LTE by Brian Raabe that are well written, witty and entertaining, so many and so much so that I thought he was a new opinion columnist.

While he is quite clearly a talented writer, his not so subtle messages of distain for Republicans in each one concern me more and more.

He paints his opinions, to which he is certainly entitled, with broad strokes trying to malign not just specific Republicans but present all Republicans in the worst possible light.

Frankly, I’ve thought of rebutting more than one of these letters. I have not done so quite frankly for fear of how he would react and respond to me personally.

I could not holdback any longer however once a read his most recent letter about State Senator Ryan Fazio considering a run for Governor of Connecticut.

(Raabe: Fazio. Governor. No, he’s serious. August 7, 2025)

His attempts to discredit Senator Fazio’s supposed lack of contribution to our State due to his age and lack of experience are nothing less than untrue.

Senator Fazio has worked tirelessly for his constituents since from the moment he began his public service. A few of the many reasons I and clearly many others (Republican, Democrat and Independent) support him include his being a champion for home rule specifically working to improve flawed legislation such as 8-30g and more recently to prevent passage of SB 5002; bringing to light the “public benefit” portion of our monthly electric and working to reduce or eliminate it as well as reducing taxes. He is one of if not the most successful legislators in our State House when it comes to co-authoring bi-partisan legislation.

He tries to sell Senator Fazio short by referencing his Wikipedia page – I’d like to point out that Kamala Harris’ Wikipedia page refers to her as the Democratic Party’s nominee in the 2024 presidential election; as much as some Democrats would like to believe it, we all know that it never happened.

Should he decide to run for governor, I and many others across the state and the political spectrum would welcome and support Ryan Fazio’s candidacy.

Sincerely,
Adele Rota

Updated policy:  Because there is a Republican primary on Sept 9, we will consider all letters for both the primary and Nov 4 municipal election with no black out period. The deadline to submit a letter for the Nov 4 election is one week before the election, Oct 28 at noon.
