According to a post by GPD, in November of 2024, a Greenwich resident was the victim of a computer scam where they subsequently lost money to the perpetrator(s).

The perpetrator(s) subsequently continued to contact the victim, making the scam more elaborate, ultimately involving trading money for gold and vice versa.  The total loss was approximately $450,000.

During a set meeting between the perpetrator(s) and the victim, a suspect was intercepted while attempting to pick up cash from the victim.  The suspect admitted to being the courier only, and stated that he was unaware of any crime.  A subsequent search was conducted of the suspect’s phone, where it was discovered that the suspect was fully involved in the fraud.

An arrest warrant was issued for the suspect, and he was arrested in January 2025 by the New York Police Dept, and eventually extradited to Greenwich to face multiple charges pertaining to the fraud.

Detectives Ryan Beattie, Christopher LiBasci and Fred Quezada conducted a very complex investigation that prevented future loss for the victim in this case as well as countless others at the hands of the suspect.
