McShea: The Threat of Over Development Isn’t Over

Submitted by John McShea, Old Greenwich

Imagine waking up one day to find your peaceful Greenwich neighborhood overshadowed by towering, monolithic apartment buildings. No, this isn’t the plot of a horror novel—it’s a real threat, courtesy of Hartford’s House Bill 5390. This law, if passed, would’ve allowed developers to construct massive, high-density complexes right in the heart of our town, disregarding local zoning laws that have kept our community unique and livable.

Worse yet, all three of our Democratic State Representatives—Steve Meskers, Rachel Khanna, and Hector Arzeno—voted in favor of this bill in the state House. They betrayed Greenwich, putting our town at risk.

But we have our own hero in this story: Senator Ryan Fazio. In a move straight out of a thriller, Ryan outmaneuvered Hartford’s power players. He stopped the bill dead in its tracks, saving our town from the nightmare of overdevelopment. Ryan Fazio understands the importance of preserving Greenwich’s character, and he’s proven he’ll fight to protect it.

But the threat isn’t over. Hartford’s already pushing something even worse—a bill would make 8-30g look like child’s play, forcing Greenwich to accommodate even more massive developments, stripping away our right to self-govern.

We need Ryan Fazio to keep fighting for us, to continue to stop this kind of terrible legislation from passing. The fight to preserve Greenwich isn’t going away, and neither should Ryan. This November, let’s keep the real-life horror stories at bay. Vote for Ryan Fazio, the man who saved Greenwich—and who will keep on saving it.
