Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo proclaimed August 30, 2024 as “Darrin Wigglesworth Day” in the Town of Greenwich. His proclamation noted Mr. Wigglesworth served the Town of Greenwich since 1989. Wigglesworth began his career as a utility worker with the Parks Division before being promoted to a tree climber with the Tree Division.
In 2014, he was promoted to Tree Foreman and always led by example, demonstrating exceptional leadership, particularly in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, while planting and maintaining trees in Town. Wigglesworth began his tenure as the Town’s Parks Operations Manager and raised the bar by implementing safety standards, organizing training programs and coordinating volunteer efforts across the Town of Greenwich, while demonstrating a work ethic and professionalism that fostered a spirit of collaboration that continues to enrich our Town. Throughout his career, Wigglesworth showed himself to be a visionary leader in the execution of the Binney Park Master Plan and was instrumental in the creation of the Pomerance-Tuchman Master Plan. He also skillfully organized projects with the Greenwich Youth Conservation Corps and Greenwich Green & Clean, mentored and guided 37 Eagle Scout projects and also somehow found the time to modernize Town playgrounds to be more inclusive and play a crucial role in managing garden groups and community volunteer efforts to enhance the beauty of Greenwich’s parks. “On Aug. 30, 2024, Wigglesworth will retire as Parks Operations Manager and leave behind a legacy of positive and lasting transformation for future generations as he moves on to face pressing decisions like whether he should play a round of golf or take a flying lesson,” Camillo added in his proclamation.
