Man Known to Greenwich Police Charged for Driving with Suspended License

A resident known to Greenwich Police was arrested on July 19. John Charles Whiteside, 63, of Putnam Green, was charged after police spotted his car traveling east on West Putnam Ave around 2:30pm.

Police made the arrest in the area of Benedict Place and the suspect, Mr. Whiteside, was charged with Illegal Operation of Motor Vehicle Under Suspension/Alcohol.

He was able to post his $50 bond and was released from custody.

Mr. Whiteside was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on August 2, 2024.

On June 2, Mr. Whiteside was arrested and charged with Speeding, Disobeying Signal of Officer, DUI, Failure to Drive in Proper Lane and Following too Close. The incident took place around 9:00pm on June 2, when Mr. Whiteside was spotted speeding in the area of Mason Street and Putnam Avenue. Police said they attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop but the driver continued westbound, disregarding the officer’s signal. Police eventually stopped the car and made contact with the driver, Mr. Whiteside.
