Weekend Island Beach Ferry Service Shortened to Hourly from 30 Minutes Due to Boat Repairs

On Friday Greenwich First Selectman Camillo announced in his Community Connections that repairs to one of the town’s ferries will result in a change to the weekend ferry service to Island Beach.

“The Indian Harbor Ferry needs unanticipated repairs to its steel hull that were found during a U.S. Coast Guard inspection back in April,” he wrote. “The repairs have been completed but this has caused a delay in it being operational and as a result, ferry service during the weekends will be every hour from 10:00am to 7:00pm.”

There will not be any changes to the weekday ferry service to Island Beach or ferry service to Great Captain Island, which will run on the regularly posted schedule.

There will be an inspection on the ferry’s completed repairs soon and if it is successful the town anticipates both ferries will be in operation by July 1 and the regularly posted ferry schedule can resume.

The Department of Parks and Recreation will provide an update on the Indian Harbor Ferry status once the inspection is complete and those interested in updates can call the ferry hotline at (203) 618-7626.
