LETTER: The League of Women Voters Debates Are Unfair

Letter to the editor from Nicole Pate, Greenwich

In my opinion The League of Women Voters is an unfair organization when it comes to debates.

I attended the Selectman Debate at Greenwich High School on October 10, 2019. Quite a few friends and relatives came with me. We were told to bring questions to ask. We had a long list of questions put together.

When we walked into the High School, I asked one of the League volunteers about submitting our questions. She said there was no need. The questions have already been selected.

Later, the League passed out notecards and asked for questions. We wrote down all of our questions, and they were collected. After the debate, we talked amongst ourselves. None of our questions were asked.

To me this seemed like a farce. If all of the questions were already selected prior to the debate, what was the point of collecting questions, and not asking them? How is this a fair and impartial debate?
