Teens Arrested after Stolen Cars Crash by Riverside School

On Sunday Greenwich Police spotted two stolen cars – a gray 2004 Volvo X70 and a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee – in the area of Sound Beach Ave and West End Ave as they ran a red light at about 3:20 am.

A patrol unit responded with lights and sirens, but both cars sped away.

The two stolen cars then crashed into each other in the area of Drinkwater Place and Riverside School.

In the crash, both cars left the roadway on Drinkwater. The Volvo had disabling damage. The Jeep left the scene, traveling north. The Jeep was found abandoned up the road.

One car carrying two juveniles, the Volvo, struck a phone pole, severing it from its base.

The driver, a juvenile male, 17, had no driver’s license. The car has been reported stolen out of Fitch Ave Darien. He admitted that he failed to stop for police because the vehicle was stolen.

The juvenile was charged with Larceny 2, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 2, Criminal Mischief and Criminal Trover. He was also charged with Driving without a License, Engaging Police in Pursuit, Failure to Obey Traffic Control Signal, Failure to Maintain Proper Lane.

He was assigned a court date in Stamford Superior Court on July 25. He was released to the custody of a family member on a promise to appear in court.

The passenger, a 16-year-old boy, was charged with  Larceny 2, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 2, and Criminal Trover. He was released from custody to a family member. He is also due to appear in Stamford Superior Court on July 25.
