Horseneck Daughters of the American Revolution Partner with Greenwich Schools to Deliver a Course on the Constitution

To honor the 237th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States on September 17, 1787, the Horseneck Daughters of the American Revolution recently partnered with Greenwich Public Schools to deliver a course on the Constitution.

This is a pilot program for Constitution Day/Week and was presented to Grade 3 Greenwich Public School students at The Cos Cob, Hamilton Avenue, Julian Curtiss and New Lebanon schools during September.

The planning began last June along with the K-5 Social Studies Coordinator, and included a brief history of the Constitution, a poster contest where the students created their own 3rd Grade class Constitution along with their signatures, (printed and with cursive handwriting) and a student interview with their teacher or principal.

At the end of the session, the Horseneck DAR members discussed their family patriot that fought in the Revolutionary War.

This pilot will hopefully be added to the Grade 3 “Assured Experiences” in all 11 elementary schools for the Greenwich Public Schools 2025/2026 school year.

The student “Class Constitutions” will be posted at the schools or at Town Hall in the coming months.
