UPDATE: GPS School Bus Service Will Not Be Disrupted on Monday

Update, Jan 28: Greenwich Schools issued an update to families to inform them that there will not be any interruption to school bus service on Monday, Jan 29, 2024.

First Student issued a statement Sunday afternoon:

“First Student is pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement with Transit Workers Union 100,” said Frank McMahon, spokesperson for First Student, adding, “This agreement reflects our commitment to providing fair compensation and a supportive work environment and recognizes the invaluable contributions of our skilled drivers and employees.”

McMahon continued, “We deeply value their dedication and hard work in ensuring the safe transportation of students.”

Original story Jan 27: Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones emailed families on Friday to say that the bus company that drives students, First Student, alerted the district earlier in the day that a contract dispute with their drivers might cause a disruption in bus service on Monday.

“We have urged First Student to do their best to resolve this matter in order for our families’ lives to start the school day uninterrupted,” she wrote. “If there is no resolution, you will need to make alternative plans to get your children to school on Monday and back home in the afternoon”
