Folsom House Administrator & Math Coordinator Appointed at GHS

On Wednesday Greenwich Schools announced that Greenwich High School Headmaster Ralph Mayo has appointed Andrew Byrne as Folsom House Administrator and Mathematics Program Coordinator at Greenwich High School, effective August 17, 2020.

Most recently, Mr. Byrne held the role of Director of Human Resources at the United Nations International School in New York City and will be returning to Greenwich Public Schools to replace Dana Tulotta who
recently accepted the role of Assistant Headmaster.

In this role, Mr. Byrne will be responsible for the social, emotional and academic needs of Folsom House students, oversight of Folsom House staff, curriculum and instructional practices for the Mathematics Program and more.

“The high school is very fortunate to have such an experienced leader to be appointed as the Folsom House Administrator,” said Mayo in a release “Byrne is a highly collaborative individual who works extremely well with students, parents and staff. GHS is pleased that he will be rejoining our Leadership team as the staff will clearly benefit from his ability to develop innovative practices and strategies that will move the GHS Mathematics Department and the Folsom House team forward.”

Byrne most recently served as the Director of Human Resources for the United Nations International School in New York City, responsible for leading all HR functions including hiring, onboarding, payroll, benefits, union negotiations and immigration matters. Prior to that, Mr. Byrne
served as the Interim Folsom House Administrator and Interim Math & Computer Science Program Administrator for Greenwich High School for the 2018-2019 school year. Before his time at Greenwich Public Schools, Mr. Byrne spent eight years with the Darien Public Schools serving as an Assistant Principal at Middlesex Middle School and Co-Principal for Royle Elementary School.

Prior to that, he spent ten years with Sacred Heart Greenwich in multiple roles including: Dean of Faculty, Academic Dean, Mathematics Department Chair and Mathematics and Science Instructor. He began his educational career at the Canterbury School as a Mathematics Instructor.

“I am excited to return to the teaching and learning community of Greenwich High School as Head of Folsom House,” Byrne said. “My goal will be to provide leadership during these unprecedented times to assist teachers and administrators in their mission to fulfill the ideals of the Vision of the Graduate and to support the academic and social-emotional needs of our students as we prepare them for the future. In this role, I will be an active contributor to the community by sharing my experiences, creating an open dialogue, and building new relationships.”

Byrne added that he looked I forward to working collaboratively with Headmaster Mayo and the leadership team to provide students with the most rigorous, accessible, and comprehensive academic, social, and emotional learning experience possible.

Byrne holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Mathematics from Bates College, a Master in Education degree with a focus in Secondary Education from the University of Massachusetts Boston, a Master in Education with a focus in Education Administration and Supervision from Fordham University, and holds an ABD in Executive Leadership from Fordham University.
