An open letter to the Town of Greenwich Board of Education regarding the passage of a motion to increase the number of nighttime sports events at Greenwich High School.
Dear Members of the Town of Greenwich Board of Education:
At your Business Meeting on October 23, 2025, you adopted a resolution to initiate the process of increasing the number of nighttime athletic events scheduled at Greenwich High School:
“Motion to request the proposed modifications to conditions placed on Cardinal Stadium by RTM approved Municipal Improvement Plan #485, PZBA Appeal #8697, and Planning & Zoning Final Site Plan approval #2278.
“1. Authorize the administration to submit an application to the RTM for modification of the conditions for use of the Cardinal Stadium Lights with respect to Municipal Improvement Plan #485, which was approved on December 11, 2000, subject to the approval of the Superior Court related to the Stipulation and Order of Judgement.
“2. If successful at the RTM, authorize the administration to submit an application to the Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals to modify the conditions for the use of the Cardinal Stadium Lights with respect to Appeal No. 8697, dated January 9, 2002, subject to the approval of the Superior Court related to the Stipulation and Order of Judgement.
“3. If successful at the PZBA, authorize the administration to submit an application to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a modification of the conditions for the use of the Cardinal Stadium Lights with respect to Final Site Plan #2278 and related decision dated June 28, 2002, subject to the approval of the Superior Court related to the Stipulation and Order of Judgement.”

As your motion acknowledges, Stamford Superior Court approval is required for these changes, which are specifically prohibited by the July 22, 2003 Stipulation and Order of Judgment.
Pursuant to the terms of the July 22, 2003 Stipulation and Order of Judgment I will file a Contempt Motion in Stamford Superior Court opposing your efforts to fundamentally disregard the Settlement you offered to me that allowed you to install lights at Greenwich High School.
As per the July 22, 2003 Stipulation and Order of Judgment, Greenwich Public Schools cannot use the lights for any purpose, effective immediately, until this matter is resolved by the Court.
