Trio from Brooklyn Face Dozens of Credit Card Fraud Charges in Greenwich

Three men from Brooklyn, NY were arrested by Greenwich Police earlier this month and face dozens of charges including Attempted Larceny 3, Identity Theft 3 and Criminal Impersonation.

Police said that on March 3, plainclothes officers initially spotted a man they recognized from a past theft investigation as he entered a high-end retail store in the area of Greenwich Avenue.

Eric Kendere Shuler, 33, was spotted with a suspect later identified as Michael Moore, 32.

Mr. Moore and Mr. Shuler displayed behavior consistent with credit card fraud in the store. The two men returned to their vehicle where another co-conspirator was waiting. The driver then engaged police in a pursuit, but all three men were later detained by multiple police units.

On scene investigation revealed that a co-conspirator impersonated two victims by utilizing two stolen credit cards bearing the victims’ Personal Identifying Information to attempt two separate purchases of over $2,000, but was ultimately declined.  Police said Mr. Moore and Mr. Shuler then impersonated a different victim by using their stolen credit card to attempt a purchase of over $2,000.

A search of the vehicle revealed several re-encoded credit cards among several other stolen credit/debit cards with their coinciding mail statements indicating they are heavily involved in organized mail theft/fraud.

Mr. Moore’s and Shuler’s charges include 27 counts of Payment Card Theft and 27 counts of Conspiracy to Commit Payment Card Theft.

Mr. Moore was unable to post his $50,000 bond and was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court.

Mr. Shuler’s bond was set at $250,000, which he was able to post. He was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on March 18.

A third man, Tevon Elijah Fleming, 30, was waiting in the vehicle when Mr. Shuler and Mr. Moore returned. Police say Mr. Fleming engaged police in pursuit. Later police found he had a counterfeit New Jersey driver’s license in his wallet.

Mr. Fleming faces dozens of charges including 27 counts of Payment Card Theft and 27 counts of Conspiracy to Commit Payment Card Theft. Fleming was also charged with Engaging Police in Pursuit and Interfering with Officer/Resisting.

Fleming’s bond was set at $200,000 and he shared the appearance in Stamford Superior Court on March 18.

According to the judicial branch website, Mr. Moore and Mr. Fleming are due back in court on April 27.

Mr. Shuler is due back in court on April 29 on the above charges and on April 1 for a separate set of charges stemming from an incident in Greenwich on March 18, which according to the Judicial Branch website include  Larceny 3, Attempted Larceny 3, and identity Theft 3.
