On Thursday night Greenwich Police reported a tragic death of a hockey player.

Around 5:00pm, during the normal course of a high school hockey game at Brunswick’s Hartong Rink, a player from the other team fell to the ice.

“Another player who was near the downed player was unable to stop, and collided with the player who fell,” Zuccerella said. “The player on the ice sustained an injury.”

The game play was stopped and 911 was called. The player was transported to Greenwich Hospital. The student player died as a result of the injury.

According to the schedule posted online, Brunswick was playing St. Luke’s. It was a JV game.

Zuccerella said a formal press release would be issued Friday morning.
