Close to midnight on Monday, Greenwich Police responded to 403 Greenwich Avenue on a report of a break in. That is the building where South Bay Restaurant is located.
Investigation revealed someone had tried to move an air conditioning unit along with a cardboard cut out taped around it, pushing in a side panel to create a small, 8″ x 6″ opening into an apartment.
After being confronted on the fire escape balcony, the suspect ran from the scene.
The suspect was described as a man wearing a grey suit, white button down shirt, dark hair, 5’10” with tan skin.
An officer spotted someone matching that description walking on Mason St between Havemeyer and East Elm. When the officer attempted to speak to him the man, later identified as Tyler James Miller, 31, of Austin, TX, started to walk up a driveway on Mason Street.
An eyewitness identification drive-by was performed and Miller was positively identified as the person who had attempted to enter the apartment.
He was arrested and charged with Criminal Attempt Burglary 2 and Breach of Peace 2.
He was unable to post his $1,000 bond and was placed in a GPD cell without incident. He has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Oct 13, 2021.
