Teen Arrested after Engaging Police in Chase Ending on Cognewaugh

On Dec 31 around 1:45am, Greenwich Police officers followed a Ford Fiesta that they spotted run a red light at Orchard Street and Putnam Ave.

The car turned onto Hillside Rd and accelerate to elude police.

Police said that the suspect drove recklessly, accelerating at dangerous speeds on Fairfield Rd and Stanwich Rd, running three stop sighs, making blind turns while fleeing from officers.

Police lost contact with the driver, but about 10 minutes later officers they stopped the car on Cognewaugh Rd.

The driver, Asaiah John Ford, 18, of East Haven, admitted to fleeing from police.

During the stop, police detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the car. A search yielded a glassine plastic baggie that later tested positive for THC.

While officers were conducting the search of the car, Mr. Ford became belligerent and uncooperative with officers.

“When an officer attempted to photograph him for the investigation, Ford took an aggressive stance and postured to the officer in a threatening manner,” police said in a release.

Ford was charged with Interfering with an Officer/Resisting Arrest, Possession of More than 1/2 Oz of Marijuana, Failure to Obey Traffic Signal, three counts of Failure to Obey Stop Sign, and Reckless Driving.

Ford was released after posting 10% of his $500 bond and was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on Jan 15, 2021.
