Shoplifter Arrested on Greenwich Ave Impersonated an Individual and Forged a Signature

On Aug 3 multiple Greenwich Police units responded to the rear of 189 Greenwich Avenue where a detective had detained a larceny suspect after telling her to stop several times.

The arrestee, Gwen Thomas, 61, of Washington Heights, NY, was stopped as she was approaching a getaway vehicle that she identified as hers.

Police say that during the course of the investigation it was determined that Ms Thomas possessed a bag lined with cardboard and tinfoil in an attempt to bypass security measures at department stores.

Within that bag police said there were 10 shirts from a store on Greenwich Avenue that the store confirmed had been stolen that day.

While in the processing area, police determined Ms Thomas impersonated another person and forged a signature on two state documents.

Ms Thomas was placed under arrest for Larceny 4, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 4, Illegal Possession of Shoplifting Device, Criminal Impersonation, Forgery 2 and Interfering with an Officer/Resisting Arrest.

Her bond was set at $10,000 and she has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Aug 17, 2022.
