On Monday, September 14, 2026, the Greenwich Police Department’s Community Impact Section, in partnership with the Greenwich Together Prevention Council, conducted unannounced compliance inspections at establishments throughout Greenwich that sell tobacco, electronic cigarette, and alcoholic products.
The inspections were conducted to determine compliance with Connecticut laws prohibiting the sale of these products to individuals under the age of 21.
Tobacco Compliance Checks
A total of nine unannounced tobacco compliance inspections were conducted. Of those, four establishments were found to be in violation of Connecticut General Statutes Sec. 53-344(b), Sale of Tobacco to Persons Under Twenty-One.
The following establishments were found to be in violation:
• Mobil Gas Station – 520 East Putnam Avenue
• Mobil Gas Station – 1129 East Putnam Avenue
• Mohegan Vape & Cigar – 1255 East Putnam Avenue
• Shell Gas Station – 1429 East Putnam Avenue
Alcohol Compliance Checks
A total of10 unannounced alcohol compliance inspectionswere conducted. Of those,2 establishments were found to be in violation of Connecticut General Statutes Sec. 30-86(b)(1), Sale of Alcohol to Persons Under Twenty-One.
The following establishments were found to be in violation:
• Mobil Gas Station – 1129 East Putnam Avenue
• Shell Gas Station – 1429 East Putnam Avenue
These compliance checks are part of the Greenwich Police Department’s continued efforts, in partnership with the Greenwich Together Prevention Council, to help prevent youth access to tobacco, vaping, and alcoholic products and to promote responsible retail practices within the community.
The Greenwich Police Department reminds retailers and their employees of the importance of verifying identification and remaining familiar with Connecticut laws governing the sale of age-restricted products.
Preventing access to these products by individuals under the age of 21 requires a continued partnership among businesses, parents, prevention organizations, law enforcement, and the community.
