Resident Scares Off Car Thief about to Drive off in Maserati

On the morning of July 26 a South Water Street resident notified police that someone had attempted to steal his 2004 Maserati.

According to Lt John Slusarz, the reporting party said around 5:00am he heard the engine of his car start and saw someone in his car outside his house.

“He shouted and the guy took off on foot,” Slusarz said adding that the car had been left unlocked with the keys inside.

“Take your keys with you and don’t leave any valuables in the car,” Slusarz advised residences. “Put valuables in the trunk if you’re going to leave your car.”

Earlier this month two cars went missing. A black 2015 Porsche Macan S was stolen from the Island Beach municipal lot a 101 Arch Street. The owner left in the with the keys in the car. That incident was on July 10.

Also a 2018 Audi A5 was taken from Old Church Road in the overnight hours between July 7 and July 8, but it was later recovered in another jurisdiction on July 8.
