Repeat Animal Cruelty Offender Due Back in Stamford Superior Court

A former Greenwich resident who was arrested and charged with three counts of Animal Cruelty back on March 25, 2025, is due back in Stamford Superior Court on Jan 7, 2026.

At the time of Marie Feniello’s arrest, Greenwich Police said the incident stemmed back to Nov 21, 2024 when Feniello, then a resident of Bedford Road, allegedly abused three of her dogs, resulting in the death of two of them, and malnutrition and seizure in the third. The two dogs that died were black Labs named Augi and Sawyer.

The third dog, “Thatcher,” was severely malnourished dog, weighing just 37 pounds. Necropsies at University of Connecticut Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory indicated that 52-pound Augi and 40-pound Sawyer were severely malnourished and had likely not eaten for 48 hours prior to their deaths.

Later, a police visit to Feniello’s Greenwich home on December 17, 2024 revealed additional unsanitary conditions, including two black Labs sharing a single crate, another dog wearing a diaper, and several cats living amid debris.

Feniello was released after posting a $50,000 bond. As part of her release conditions, she was prohibited from possessing any animals.

Her criminal information summary from Greenwich Police in March indicated that at the time of her arrest, Feniello’s address was in New Jersey, and since then she has popped up in arrest reports in Vermont and New Hampshire.

On November 16, she was arrested in Lyme, NH on two charges of Negligent Animal Cruelty and it was noted she had been ordered not to possess any animals from the Greenwich Animal Cruelty Case.

Subsequently, Vermont State Police said that on Nov 27, 2025 two cats were taken to the Humane Society after being found in poor condition in a disabled car on I-91 in Dummerston driven by Ms Feniello, now 65 and residing in Bennington. VSP said Feniello was prohibit from owning any animals as a condition of her release, but when when state troopers responded they found two cats in her car in poor condition inside a “heavily soiled” crate.

Her charges in Vermont are Cruelty to Animals and Violation of Conditions of Release.  She was assigned a date in Windham County Court in Vermont in December.

Back in 2008, Feniello was convicted on six counts of Animal Cruelty in Montclair, New Jersey after investigators found five dogs and one cat malnourished and living in a feces- and urine-filled apartment. Feniello was ordered to surrender all animals, complete community service, pay restitution, and was prohibited from owning animals for several years.

According to the Connecticut Judicial Branch, Ms Feniello also has an outstanding charge of Criminal Trespass first degree in Greenwich stemming back to an incident on March 27, 2025. She was arrested on June 2, 2025.  She will also answer for this charge in Stamford Superior Court on Jan 7, 2026.

Animal welfare groups have issued public warnings identifying Feniello as a “multi-state animal cruelty offender.” She is reported to frequently move between New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, and New Hampshire to acquire new animals.
