Police Seek Witnesses of Crash that Closed E Putnam Ave Monday Morning

Update: Greenwich police announced at 7:10pm that East Putnam Ave in the area of the single car crash is fully reopened.

Original story: Monday morning started off with a detour on East Putnam Ave following a single car crash that left a driver, the sole occupant of a 2020 Jeep Wrangler with life threatening injuries.

Police say the crash took place in the area of 300 East Putnam Ave at approximately 8:00pm Sunday night.

The Jeep was traveling west, when it left the travel portion of the roadway.  The vehicle struck a tree and utility pole on the north shoulder before rolling over onto its roof.

The driver was transported to the hospital for treatment.

By 11:00am the a single lane in each direction was open to traffic.

Following a crash around 8:00pm Sunday night a portion of East Putnam Ave was closed. By 11:00am on Monday one lane in each direction was open to travel.

The Greenwich Police Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating the collision.

Earlier this morning police announced at 5:21am that due to the crash East Putnam Ave was closed between Park Ave and Old Church Rd so utility companies could repair the poles that were damaged as a result of the accident.
