Greenwich Police plain clothes officers working in the central Greenwich business district were notified about a non-patron at a restaurant attempting to pick up a “lost” credit card, but was unable to provide identification to staff.
Greenwich Police plain clothes officers detained the person, later identified as Dante Ivan Smith, 25 of Far Rockaway, NY.
Investigation revealed that Mr. Smith had entered multiple restaurants on Greenwich Avenue, attempting to obtain various credit cards by claiming he “lost” them a week earlier.
When confronted about his identity, Smith exited the restaurants.
He was charged with Criminal Attempt Larceny 6 and Criminal Attempt/Take Payment Card.
He was able to post the required minimum 7% of his $3,000 bond and was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on April 4, 2025.
