Plate Reader Snags Local Man for Stolen Vehicle

On May 18 at about 6:30pm, Greenwich Police dispatch received a call through the National Insurance Crime Bureau that a plate reader indicated a positive hit on a stolen vehicle parked in the area of 339 Greenwich Ave.

Officers arrived on scene and observed the occupant Mazllum Pervizaj, 52, of  75 Havemeyer Place in Greenwich seated within a white 2015 Chevrolet Cruze bearing NY plates.

The vehicle was reported stolen to the Port Chester, NY Police department by Enterprise Rental on April 27, and dispatch was able to confirm the stolen vehicle status.

Pervizaj related that he was making payments to his “girl friend” who, in turn, was supposed to be renewing the rental every month. He was unable to provide any evidence that Enterprise received payment.

Pervizaj was placed under arrest for Larceny 2nd degree. His bond was set at $5,000. He is currently being held at the Greenwich Police Department awaiting his May 25, 2016 Stamford Superior Court date.
