Organized Retail Theft Suspect Also Had Drug Paraphernalia

On the afternoon of Feb 21, Greenwich Police plain clothes officers working in the central business district were notified about a shoplifting incident.

Plain clothes and patrol officers detained and identified the suspect as Melvin Reginald Hines, 55, of New York, NY.

Investigation revealed that the suspect shoplifted three handbags valued at $6,670 from a local retailer.

Additionally, a search of Hines’ person revealed him to be in possession of suspected drug paraphernalia.

He was charged with:

Use of Drug Paraphernalia
Organized Retail Theft <$10,000
Criminal Mischief 1
Larceny 3
Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3

Hines was unable to post his $100,000 bond and remanded to Greenwich Police custody.

He was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on March 7, 2025.
