Multiple Charges for Greenwich Driver Who Hit Tree Stump and Left Car on Lawn

On March 1 around 6:30am Greenwich Police responded to Riversville Rd near Glenville School where a car had been abandoned in the overnight hours.

According to Lt Mark Zuccerella, police determined that Douglas H Lewtan, 56, of Prospect Drive had been driving a 2019 Kia Sol on Memory Lane, when he hit a tree stump, damaging the car’s right fender.

Police say Lewtan allegedly continued down Riversville Rd before he stopped and left the car on someone’s lawn, damaging the property in the process.

Zuccerella said Lewtan left the scene without contacting the owner or Greenwich Police.

Lewtan was charged with Improper Turn/Stop, Evading Responsibility with Property Damage, and Driving without Minimum Insurance.

He was released from custody after posting his $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on March 6, 2020.
