Multiple Charges for Mercedes Driver Who Engaged Police in 3am Pursuit in Old Greenwich

On Monday around 3:00am Greenwich Police followed a Mercedes they spotted speeding southbound Sound Beach Ave in Old Greenwich. The car turned left onto Arcadia and pulled into the Sunoco station. The car quickly turned out of the gas station and sped down Park Ave, ran a stop sign at Lockwood and sped back toward Sound Beach Ave.

Police tried to stop the car at the intersection of Shore Rd but it continued toward Tod’s Driftway with its lights off.

At that point, police lost the car, but were able to spot it again on Keofferam Road, still with headlights off.

Police stopped the car at the intersection of Keofferam and Sound Beach Ave.

The driver, Jax Bateau, 22, of Elmont, NY, was charged with Failure to Display Lights, Failure to Obey Stop Sign, Engaging Police in Pursuit and Reckless Driving and Driving with a Suspended License. He was able to post 10% of his $2,500 bond and was released from custody.

Bateau has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Feb 1, 2021.
