Men Charged with Cutting Copper Wires off Byram Utility Poles

On the morning of Jan 21 Greenwich Police responded to South Water Street in Byram on a report of two men cutting wires off utility poles and placing them into a backpack.

Police said there were no power company utility trucks in the area.

Investigation revealed that Catalino Depas, 47, and Maximiliano Tolcha-Cox, 46, both of Adee Street in Port Chester had cut copper ground wire of six Eversource utility poles. The men were accompanied by accomplices.

Mr. Depas was observed by officers and a witness cutting wire and prying it from the poles.

Mr. Tolcha-Cox was spotted putting the copper wire into his backpack.

Depas, who was accompanied by two accomplices, was charged with Conspiracy, Larceny 6, and Criminal Mischief 2.

He was released on a promise to appear in court and has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Feb 26, 2021.
