On Sunday, a Land Rover was stolen at the Sunoco at Rte 1 and Indian Field Road. A witness shared on Facebook that the incident took place around 1:45pm when he saw a group of three suspects pull up to the intersection just after the driver had filled up and gone into the gas station store. He said one suspect got in the driver’s seat of the Land Rover and a woman ran to the car and got in the passenger seat.
Captain Patrick Smyth confirmed the witness account, saying, “After gassing up his vehicle the operator went inside the store and when he came out his vehicle had been taken.”
Smyth said immediate investigation determined that after he left his vehicle, the suspects pulled up in another vehicle, jumped out and entered the victim’s vehicle and both vehicles fled the area southbound on Indian Field Rd.
Last week a driver’s BMW was stolen at the Old Greenwich Car Wash in the moment the driver turned away. That vehicle was later recovered and four people arrested in connection with the incident. Captain Smyth explained that the four suspects were located and arrested in the suburbs of Westchester County in a joint law enforcement operation. These four suspects are also suspected of being involved in several other auto thefts within Greenwich and Fairfield County area. The BMW was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.
Police said, as a reminder you should never leave a vehicle unlocked and the keys within anytime you exit your vehicle, whether at a gas station, car wash, or just for a minute to run into a store for anything.
