Greenwich Police Officer Su Ah Sor Recognized for Actions during Greenwich Ave Fire

Greenwich Police Dept Chief Jim Heavey has awarded Officer Su Ah Sor “Officer of the Month” for her actions when she spotted smoke from a fire on Greenwich Ave on May 19, 2023.

On that day, at approximately 11:36 am, officer Su Ah Sor was working on a traffic detail for the Town and directing traffic at a construction site at the intersection of West Putnam Avenue and Greenwich Avenue when she observed thick black smoke billowing from the top of a building in the area of 24 Greenwich Ave.  

Officer Su Ah Sor radioed her observations into Greenwich Police Dispatch and quickly responded to the building on foot.  

Upon arrival, she observed a subject entering 24 Greenwich Ave with a fire extinguisher, and advised the person to exit the building immediately.

Officer Su Ah Sor entered the building and began to evacuate its occupants without regard for her own personal safety.

During her efforts, Officer Su Ah Sor suffered smoke inhalation from the fire. 

This award is given to any member of the Greenwich Police Department, who, in any given month, performs exceptional achievement in any police endeavor, including extraordinary valor, investigative work, drug control and prevention, crime prevention, community policing, community relations activities, juvenile programs, training programs, and traffic safety.
