Greenwich man who did time for fatal hit and run near GHS is arrested

Andrew Schmidt, who was convicted and sentenced in 2018 for the 2016 hit and run death of a Cos Cob pedestrian, Edward Setterberg, has been arrested again.

Mr. Schmidt, formerly of Round Hill Road in Greenwich is now a resident of Norwalk.

A lengthy police investigation of the hit and run fatality in the area of the intersection of Hillside Road and East Putnam Ave, led to the arrest of Mr. Schmidt, then 17, who was charged with manslaughter and evading responsibility resulting in death.

At the time, Schmidt was eligible for juvenile status in the judicial system, but a decision was made to try him as an adult.

Schmidt was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison and five years probation.

Mr. Schmidt, now 24, and a resident of Norwalk, had an outstanding warrant from Greenwich Police for Disorderly Conduct stemming from an incident on Round Hill Road in Greenwich on Dec 7, 2021.

On Friday, Sept 15 Greenwich Police responded to Norwalk Police Dept after being dispatched by Norwalk Probation Special Services Dept, who were conducting routine work when they encountered Mr. Schmidt.

After he was processed, Mr. Schmidt’s bond was set at $1,000. He was able to post the required minimum 10% cash and was assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on Sept 18, 2023.
