Greenwich Man Perishes in Out-of-State Crash, Wife Injured

A Greenwich resident died Sunday morning in Hanover County, Virginia, and his wife was injured after their van went off the road on I-95 north, north of Richmond where it crashed into trees and caught fire.

James Benincasa, 60, was pronounced dead. His wife, Tiffany Jerome Benincasa, 53, confirmed Monday night she and her husband were in a bad accident.

Virginia State Police responded to the crash Sunday around 9:00am.

When officials arrived Mrs. Benincasa was being treated for her injuries. Emergency personnel pronounced Mr. Benincasa dead at the scene.

In a report on Channel 6 News Richmond, the Benincasas’ Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van can be seen where it came to rest.

The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
