GPD Nab Mail Theft Suspects Who Crashed Stolen Porsche into Police Car

Responding to a report of a suspicious SUV and young male behaving suspiciously near a mailbox on Greenwich Ave on Christmas, Greenwich Police arrested two New York men.

The incident took place close to midnight. When police arrived, officers observed what appeared to be a skinny male dressed in a black hoodie manipulating the blue USPS mailbox on the corner of Greenwich Ave and Fawcett Place.

The man had his hood on his head and a black face-covering, obscuring his face.

Just south of this suspect, police spotted a dark color Porsche SUV parked along the northern curb of Fawcett Place close to the junction of Greenwich Ave.

As officers approached, the suspects fled in the SUV, driving on the sidewalk and eventually crashing into a police cruiser before crashing into a sign.

The suspects fled on foot but didn’t get far before being taken into custody.

Police determined the Porsche SUV the suspects were driving had been stolen out of Suffolk County, New York.

Within the vehicle officers located tools that are used to steal mail, multiple pieces of stolen mail, a handgun, two high capacity magazines, and multiple rounds of 9mm ammunition.
