GPD: Man Caught in Stolen Jeep Pleads the Fifth

On Saturday morning Greenwich Police responded to the area of Mill Street in Byram after Westchester police were alerted to a stolen car through their license plate reader.

Greenwich officers patrolling the area of Hamilton Ave and Artic Street spotted two men in the car, a white Jeep Cherokee with New Jersey plates in the parking lot of a business on Hamilton Avenue.

There were two men in the car. One was identified as Jose A Tejada, and the other was a juvenile.

Mr. Tejada refused to answer any questions on scene. Instead he said, “I plea the fifth.”

Police located a small plastic bag with 1.3 grams of a green leafy substance which later tested positive for marijuana.

Tejada was charged with Larceny of Motor Vehicle greater than $20,000 and Possession of Controlled Substance.

He was unable to post his $25,000 bond and remained in police custody. He has a date in Stamford Superior Court on Feb 9, 2021.
