GPD: Firearm and Stolen Vehicle Recovered

Greenwich Police released a statement via Facebook saying that on Saturday morning around 5:00am, Master Police Officer Solomon and Officer D’Arco observed a vehicle that was stolen from Stamford, traveling in Greenwich near the Stamford town line.

The Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the suspect driver refused to stop and tried to flee by driving into Stamford. Greenwich’s Dispatch Center relayed the information to Stamford Police, providing them with the vehicle’s last known location.

The Officers were able to follow the stolen vehicle from a distance and observed the vehicle hit a curb causing a flat tire at the intersection of Stillwater and West Ave. The three individuals inside the vehicle abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Stamford Police subsequently conducted an extensive search of the area for the suspects. They were not located.

The GPD Officers arrived on scene at the collision site and located a Glock pistol with an extended capacity magazine on the pavement near the vehicle tire.

“This incident emphasizes the ongoing need to combat vehicle theft in our community,” Greenwich Police said in their statement. “We must remain vigilant; keep keys and fobs out of vehicles , lock vehicle doors. We need to work together to ensure the safety and security of our communities.”
