GPD: Daytime larcenies from unlocked cars in parking lots increase

Greenwich Police announced that between Aug 20 and 23 there were three car thefts. The first was an unlocked Mustang stolen form Carriage Rd.

“The midnight officers attempted to stop this vehicle, but it fled onto I-95,” said Lt Mark Zuccerella, adding that it was recovered later in the morning in East Haven.

The second car was an unlocked GMC Acadia stolen from Weaver Street. “The thief crashed the car,” Zuccerella said.

Third was a Lexus stolen from Pleasant Street. It is unknown whether it was unlocked, though there were no signs of a break-in.

“The owner did report they lost a set of keys to the vehicle. It has not been recovered,” Zuccerella said.

All three are being investigated.

Lt Zuccerella said police are noticing an increase in daytime larcenies from unlocked cars in the parking lots North of Putnam Ave.

“If you are visiting an area, such as a private club, please remember to lock your vehicles and hide any valuables in the trunk,” Zuccerella said. “Detectives are assigned the cases and are developing leads.”
