GPD Arrest Suspect after Four Flee from Stolen Car that Contained Firearm

Around 2:20am on Sunday, Greenwich Police arrested a Bridgeport teen after he got out and ran from a car that had been stolen from Milford and had a firearm within.

According to GPD, Rye Brook Police pursued the stolen vehicle into Greenwich.

In the area of Brookside Drive, the vehicle came to a sudden stop and all four occupants fled on foot.

Greenwich Police were able to apprehend one of the occupants, the 17-year-old from Bridgeport. He was taken into custody without incident. The other three suspects eluded capture.

Car thefts continue to be a problem throughout Connecticut and New York.

Greenwich Police say that changes in CT legislation regarding pursuits and juvenile law over the years, coupled with an abundance of vehicles left with key fobs inside have made this crime easier for the criminals.

First and foremost, removing keys is the simplest way to ensure your vehicle will not be stolen. By doing so, we eliminate the risk of criminals stealing cars and using them for other crimes, or stealing them and driving recklessly in our neighborhoods.

“Remember, a moment of neglect can invite significant trouble. We all need to take this small step to safeguard our communities,” GPD said in a post on Facebook.

Greenwich Police vow to  continue their efforts to detect, disrupt, and deter crime in the Town of Greenwich, but are asking residents to please spread the word about removing key fobs and keys, and other valuables from vehicles and avoid being an easy target.
