On Wednesday Capt Patrick Smyth issued a statement announcing that at approximately 4:30am the Greenwich Police responded to Putnam Hill on a report of four hooded subjects looking into cars.
Smyth said the first responding police officer observed two cars in the area, turning from Milbank Ave onto East Putnam Ave, one closely following the other.
When the two cars then split up and took off in different directions, the responding officer followed one of the vehicles that took off, which fled onto I-95 Northbound.
The other vehicle, a Volvo, traveled westbound on West Putnam Ave where it was observed by another officer within the Shell Gas Station on West Putnam Ave unoccupied with the door open.
Police determined the driver was a male inside the gas station store. Officers approached the suspect who was uncooperative and refused to give any identification or answer any questions.
Investigation determined that the Volvo he was operating had just been reported as stolen from Putnam Hill and he was then placed under arrest.
The subject arrested was Jovanni Jesus Quinones from Bridgeport, CT.
He was charged with Larceny of Motor Vehicle – 1st offense and Interfering with Officer/Resisting.
It was also determined that Mr. Quinones was on probation for a Weapons in a Motor Vehicle Violation from a 2021 incident.
Quinones was given a court date of Feb 5, 2025. He was held in police custody after failing to post his $10,000 bond.
