Driver Found Asleep in Running Car on Wrong Side Of Road Faces Charges

On Tuesday just after midnight Greenwich Police responded to a report of a vehicle on the wrong side of the road facing traffic on East Putnam Ave in Riverside.

Police say the vehicle was found running with the keys in the ignition and the occupant asleep in the driver’s seat.

During the course of the investigation the arrestee, later identified as Mamadou Barry, 36, of 1723 East 172nd Street in the Bronx, claimed he was not sleeping but rather that he had been pulled over by Greenwich officers.

Mr. Barry also claimed that he was not on the wrong side of the road despite viewing the double yellow line in the roadway on the right side of his vehicle.

Police say they detected the odor of alcohol on Mr. Barry who did not comply with officer’s orders to step out of the vehicle and say he had to be physically removed from the car.

Mr. Barry was charged with DUI, Failure to Drive Right and Interfering with an Officer/Resisting Arrest.

He was able to post his bond of $500 and has a court date on Jan 2, 2019.
