Greenwich Police Captain Mark Zuccerella, said that on Thursday afternoon around 3:30pm police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle, BMW, taken from 1340 E Putnam Ave.  The stolen car had a child under 13 years of age inside and had been left unlocked with the engine running.

Zuccerella said several police units flooded the area and located the BMW in front of the Hyatt Hotel in Old Greenwich.

The child was inside the vehicle when it was located and had not been harmed. The child was reunited with the parent.

The thief was observed as a Black male wearing a green jacket.  This male left the area in an unknown vehicle only described as a light colored small sedan headed into Stamford.

“We continue to remind and urge residents not to leave their keys/fobs in their vehicles, make sure the engine has been turned off, and lock the doors. This is the second incident this year where a vehicle was stolen that was left unlocked with a child within,” GPD said in an update Thursday afternoon. “Thankfully, the children were not physically harmed in either incident. The investigation thus far revealed that the suspect entered a black Hyundai Sonata and left the area toward Stamford.”

Police are investigating the theft.  Anyone with information is asked to call 203-622-8054
