Bronx Men Charged with Larceny, Identity Theft at Local Bank

On Saturday, Sept 30 plainclothes Greenwich police officers in the central Greenwich business district observed suspicious activity at bank in the area of West Elm Street.

Patrol officers and plain clothes officers were able to detain and positively identify the arrestees, Hector Jashjunior Ortega, 21,of Bronx, NY and his co-conspirator, Kenyatti K Greene, 24, of Bronx, NY.

Police say Mr. Ortega presented a counterfeit check for $693.71 using the personal identifying information of the victim’s business authorized signee.

Police say Mr. Greene facilitated Mr. Ortega’s attempted check cashing fraud by acting as a getaway driver in an unregistered vehicle which also contained contraband (9 counterfeit checks totaling $6,378.24 and banking envelopes) in shared spaces and also through the implication in the fraud via Mr. Ortega.

Ortega was arrested and charged with:

Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3
Criminal Attempt Larceny 5
Identity Theft 3
Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 3 (three counts)
Forgery 3 (9 counts)
Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (9 counts)

Ortega was assigned $10,000 bond and a date in Stamford Superior Court on October 11, 2023.

Mr. Greene was charged with:

Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3
Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 5
Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 3 (3 counts)
Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (9 counts)

Her bond was set at $10,000 and she shares a date in Stamford Superior Court with Ortega on Oct 11, 2023.
