$500K Bond for Fugitive from Justice Found Asleep in His Car

On Thursday, April 25, Greenwich Police arrested West Islip, NY man who was wanted as a fugitive from justice.

At about 6:15am a Greenwich Police officer on patrol spotted a car pulled over in the travel lane on Sound Shore Drive near Indian Field Rd (by I95 exit 4) creating a potential hazard.

The sole occupant of the vehicle, identified by his NY state driver’s license as Matthew V Amato, 31, of Haynes Ave in West Islip, was asleep in the driver’s seat of his 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Amato had an active extraditable warrant out of Suffolk County, NY for Forgery 2 and Forgery 3. He was arrested and transported to Greenwich Police Dept where he was processed and assigned a date in Stamford Superior Court on May 9, 2019.

His bond was set at $500,000 which he was unable to post at the time of his arrest.
