Catherine Squillace, 84

Catherine Squillace, a lifelong Greenwich resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 07, 2023, at the age of 84.

She was born on June 26, 1938, to Anna (Carlucci) and Eugene Carlin. Catherine went to Hamilton Avenue Elementary School and graduated from Greenwich High School, class of 1956.

Catherine met the love of her life, John Squillace, ice skating in 1958 and went on to be married for 62 years. They enjoyed skiing in Vermont and spending their winters in Florida.

Catherine was the epitome of a homemaker. She had a passion for quilting, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She followed her love of quilting and opened up a little shop on Grigg Street in Greenwich in the 70’s called Puddles.

She embraced her husband’s passion of baseball and would wash the teams uniforms every week. Catherine was a member of the Holly Hill Tones along with her husband John. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church on Greenwich Avenue and dutifully ironed the church linens every week for 23 years. A devout Catholic, Catherine said the Rosary every single day, sometimes more than once and encouraged her family to do the same.

Above all else, she loved spending time with her family and cooking. Nothing made her happier than having her nieces and nephews around the table enjoying her authentic Italian cooking and baking. It didn’t matter what time of day you stopped by, the tea kettle was ready and waiting on the stove.

Catherine is survived by her sister-in-law Minnie Mellor. She will be especially missed by nieces and nephews Scott, Colleen, Scott Jr, Shane and Courtney. Dayna Del Valle, (Yamil) Erin, Leah and David Sottosanti, Diane Saunders, and cousins Maryanne Bria, Ricky Bria and Linda Gattuso. She will also miss her long phone calls with her friends Carol Mucci and Rose Marie Ginise.

She was predeceased by her parents Anna and Eugene Carlin, brother, Eugene Carlin, great-niece Rachel Sottosanti, and nephew Mark Mellor.

Donations in her memory can be made to Kids in Crisis or The Dominican House of Studies, 487 Michigan Avenue NE, Washington D.C. 20017.

To honor her life a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Monday, Feb 13, 2023 at St. Mary’s Church in Greenwich. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwich.
