The Housing Authority of the Town of Greenwich Announces Scholarships

The Housing Authority of the Town of Greenwich (HATG) announces its 2020 scholarship recipients. The $1,000 scholarships, funded by HATG, were awarded to eight first-year college students determined by the Greenwich Scholarship Association, and eight students currently enrolled in college. All sixteen recipients are residents of one of the Greenwich Housing Developments or a participant in the Section 8 Program.

Through the Greenwich Scholarship Association, the eight students who graduated from Greenwich High School in June are Erica Adjei, June Akpata, Carolina Alicea, Samantha Alvarado, Joana Cabrera, Alberto Figueroa, Mariana Garcia, and Alyson Payan.

For the eight students currently enrolled in college, additional scholarship criteria included a GPA of 2.5 or higher and submission of a 500-word essay on the topic of how society has needed to make changes due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and specifically the adjustments they have made to a “new normal.”

The eight recipients are Eternity Armenteros, Jocelyn Benitez, Lumi Bici, Mia Giselle Binuya, Fjolla Gashi, Hachton Laforest, Claudia Leiva, and Kelly Anne Serdena.

All award money is sent directly to the schools.

“Congratulations to each of our scholarship recipients on behalf of myself, the Board of Commissioners, and everyone from the Housing Authority of the Town of Greenwich. We are happy to support these students in their higher education pursuits,” said Anthony Johnson, Executive Director of the Housing Authority.

“Part of our mission is to provide our residents with access to opportunities. We don’t just say our children’s futures are important – we do something about it. We are proud to provide our residents with safe, decent, and affordable housing and services that foster opportunities for success, such as furthering their educational goals.”
