Holly Hill Sets Up an Area for Residents to Drop Off Pumpkins to be Composted

Down at the Holly Hill Resource Recovery facility, they have set up an areas near the yard waste section for residents to drop off their pumpkins and gourds.

According to Operations Manager Patrick Collins this is a great way to keep pumpkins out of the trash and know they will be composted through the town’s arrangement with Seasonal and Curbside Compost.

A permit is required to access Holly Hill. Click here for information.

Alternately families might enjoy attending Waste Free Greenwich’s third annual Great Pumpkin Rescue on Saturday, Nov 16, 2024 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Living Hope Community Church in Old Greenwich.

Sponsored by Curbside Compost, the event aims to collect pumpkins for composting and to raise awareness about food waste in our community.

Last year the Great Pumpkin Rescue diverted over 4,000 lbs of pumpkins from the waste stream.

This free, family-friendly event will feature a pumpkin toss and lawn games, including pumpkin bowling, spooky ring toss, pumpkin bean bag toss and gourd tic-tac-toe.

Note:  Holly Hill Resource Recovery Facility will be open on Veterans Day during normal hours 7:00am to 2:30pm.
