Indivisible Greenwich, a local chapter of Indivisible, the national movement created to protect America’s democracy during the Trump Administration, will meet on Thursday, February 21st, at 7:00pm, at Eastern Middle School, 51 Hendrie Avenue, Riverside.
The meeting will be a joint event co-hosted with Indivisible Stamford, a Stamford chapter of Indivisible.
Special guest Representative Jim Himes will address the groups and their invited guests about the state of our democracy and life in the House after the 2018 mid-term elections.
Those in the public who are interested in learning more about the group and its efforts, or to hear Rep. Himes speak, are also invited to participate in the group’s campaign to promote civic engagement in seeking results-oriented action at the federal and state levels.
“The response to Indivisible Greenwich has been outstanding since our initial meeting in 2017 and we look forward to working on, and sharing information about, our new initiatives in 2019,” said Joanna Swomley, a founder of Indivisible Greenwich. “We are also happy to be partnering with Indivisible Stamford for this event. We are fortunate to have another active Indivisible group right next door.”
“Our group is particularly looking forward to hearing from Representative Himes and learning about the changes in the House since the 2018 mid-terms,” she continued. “We are anxious to hear about the new legislative agenda, including HR1, the pro-democracy bill, as well as efforts to act as a check on this President’s power.”
“The doors open at 6:30 p.m. on February 21st and we hope people will come early to
meet each other and talk to members,” said Nerlyn Pierson, another founder.
Rep. Himes will speak and answer questions about:
• HR1, the pro-democracy bill, the green new deal and other legislative initiatives
• Impact of new members, including the new women
• Outlook for checks, balances and democracy
• Protecting election integrity in the face of continued Russian interference
• The environment, foreign policy and more
