Submitted by Janet Stone McGuigan, outgoing Democratic Greenwich Selectperson
It has truly been a pleasure and privilege to have served as your Selectperson these last four years. Thank you for this honor.
I’m proud of the record and reputation I established. However much I have given I have gotten back in abundance. But change is good. I leave this office feeling inspired and optimistic for our Town’s future. I congratulate Fred and Lauren on their reelection, I know Rachel will be an impactful Selectwoman and I will do everything I can to support her in this role.
And I will continue to serve Greenwich by returning to the RTM, this time along with my younger son, James. I’m delighted we will be one of at least three parent-child teams. Whoever says GenZ is disaffected needs to visit Greenwich! I’m also honored to continue as the co-chair of the Sustainability Committee.
You can always count on me to be the adult in the room, and that will never change. Temperament is everything in public office, and a spirit of respectful collegiality is essential even when we disagree. And open debate does not diminish but indeed nurtures democracy.
I will continue to champion our youth and seniors and everyone in between. Whatever role I’m in, I want to be a contributing member of a welcoming and inclusive Greenwich community. Thank you for your partnership on this journey.
