PRIHODA: Vision and Hope Are on the the Ballot on Election Day

Submitted by Monica Prihoda

Knowing the voting history and statements made in recent debates of current officials and prospective candidates at all levels – particularly First Selectperson, Selectpersons, Budget Estimate, Taxation (BET), and the BiPartisan Districts 1-12 Coalition of the Representative Town Meeting, and Town Clerk this is the conclusion I have come to:

The Democratic candidates on ALL levels offer a solid strategic vision of how to address funding for all public infrastructure – most urgently our schools and how to address growing climate change impacting our coastal town.

They have presented their vision in statements and there have been many letters printed to our local media which you can consult and I will not repeat here.

An excellent source is The Voting Moms (Greenwich) site, written by two bipartisan parents, a Republican and a Democrat, which succinctly states why.

The candidates I support for the above reasons are:

FIRST SELECTPERSON AND SELECTPERSON:

Laura Erickson and Janet Stone McGuigan.

Both candidates have made statements where I learned of their extensive years of professional business and environmental experience and many years serving our town in various capacities – they know Greenwich!  Currently Ms. Erickson serves on the BET and Ms. Stone McGuigan as a Selectperson. Both are in a minority position when it comes to voting on any issue despite their best attempts to move Greenwich into the 21st Century.

BET:  Elliot Alcheck, Matt DesChamps, Scott Kalb, Leslie Moriarity, Stephen Selbst and David Weisbrod. All these Democratic candidates either run their own businesses or have held senior executive financial positions in major companies. Again, they are in the minority position when voting on any budget, for example schools.

TOWN CLERK:  Lucy Von Brachel has years of professional business experience and has served many terms on the RTM.  She will streamline and modernize this office to create efficiency in serving the residents of Greenwich.

Contrary to the fear-mongering signs posted by extremists who have nothing of substance to offer, the Democratic candidates should they be elected will not impose high rise buildings, raise the mill rate or taxes beyond historic recognition. They live here too.

Again, I urge you to refer to The Voting Moms website and vote for these candidates who offer the STRATEGIC VISION which our town needs and deserves.

As Mick Jagger sings:

“You can’t always get what you want, but if you try (VOTE) sometimes, you might just get what you need!”

Respectfully,
Monica Prihoda

NOTE: The last day to submit a LTE about a candidate is Oct 30th at 12:00 noon, no exceptions. We are starting to get a backlog, so if you see letters published after Oct 30, that’s the reason.
